Good Day Ava,

Quick question: Do any of you remember any stories, or have pictures, of the famous (or infamous depending upon your interest in sports @ TLHS) Varsity football game played each year against the San Rafael High School Bulldogs otherwise known as the 'Bell Game'?

I have been contacted by a journalism student @ TLHS who is doing some research on the history of the 'Bell Game' and so I am reaching out on her behalf to see if I can uncover any info that would be helpful to her reporting.

I guess these days this 'Bell Game' is a BIG DEAL - as it has been since circa 1962! (It will be played this year on Friday, November 8th, 2024 @ SRHS)

I found this picture in my 1968 yearbook (TLHS won the game that year) and I will be scanning it and sending it in as my contribution.

Marla, Mark and MGs

Several reunions ago, Marla Despain (Preston)and I discovered we shared an interest in MG cars. She and her husband have an impressive collection of MG and other British iron, and I worked for, constructed and raced many different British cars including MG starting in 1970. On October 1, 2016, Marla's MG touring club spent the day at Sonoma Raceway where CSRG, my vintage racing club, was conducting our annual Charity Challenge event. Marla and I were able to meet for a quick visit in the paddock area where her husband "snapped" (is that what you do when you take a Smartphone picture???) this photo.

Marla, it was fun to visit again after so many years.

You never know what common interests can hold old friends together, so keep searching!

You can edit your posts, by clicking on the [Edit Message] link located at the bottom right of your message. I'm not sure what pictures you are talking about, I need a little more information in order to help you with them.

I just had a blast from the past. While listening to satellite radio, I recognized the DJ....Dusty Street. I can remember listening to her when she was a DJ at KTIM back in '71-72.

TLHS Home Coming Game

Just in case you did not know, the TLHS Home Coming Game is Saturday, October 9th at the Terra Linda field. The game starts at 3pm.

If you are there, look for me. I'll be wearing my class of '72 T-shirt from our 30yr reunion (it still fits, sort of) and a TLHS Class of 1972 hat.

I've been checking out some of the other TLHS class websites and connecting with former friends from school and the neighborhood. However, I notice that there are several classes not represented (1971, 1973 - 1976). If anyone has contact with friends, brothers, sisters, etc. from those classes, please encourage them to set up a website for their respective classes. If necessary, I'm sure Ava would help direct them on how to get started.

Old, ya think I'm old? To tell you the truth I always thought so too, but found out that many people OUR age have caught the RV bug and have become FULLTIMERS (otherwise known as the affluent homeless)

Wow Anne! I had no idea that you traveled so much! Wish we were able to talk more about that the other night, I would have loved to have heard about your adventures.

Traveling is one of my passions (2nd to skiing) but unfortunatley my husband does not like to fly so I travel with my mother, my sons or with girlfriends. I have been to Europe several times, to the Antartic, Argentina (hiking in the southern most region of Patagonia was really the highlight...the glaciers are spectacular but after a while penguins begin to all look alike!),twice to China which includedTibet (Oh my Gawd!!), twice to Kenya (would return in a heartbeat!) and once to Tanzania. Now I just need to make it to Australia and I will have been to all 7 continents. My next trip hopefully will be to Ireland (my husband and I are both 50% Irish) with my husbands brother and his wife. I will drag my husband kicking and screaming (but drugged) onto that plane! My mother has traveled the world since '83 when my father passed away and she has taken myself and my 2 sons on many trips and now my sons have the bug to travel as well. I have always told people I could see a jet in the sky and I don't care where it is going, I would get on it. It could be going to Milwaulkee and I would go...never been there. Actually I have seen more of the world than I have of the U.S. I have only been as far east as Grand Junction, Colorado and north to Olympia, Washington, other than layovers in various U.S city airports. Maybe, like Ava has done, an RV trip across the U.S. should be on the wish list (although, sorry Ava, I have always thougjht only old people did that!).

Well... mostly in the Bay Area. But... in 2000 I explored the Far East. My sister was living in Singapore and invited me to visit. Not only did I see Singapore but I went to Vietnam and Malaysia. It was quite an adventure!

Let me see if I can recall where I've been. Way back in 72 I went to Italy, stayed a few months, worked in Saudi Arabia for 5 months, visited Egypt on my way home from Saudi. Took a ferry ride to Victoria Canada and have traveled across the US in our RV.

Lemme see......Texas for boot camp and tech school, then a year and a half in the Upper Peninsula of Mich (1st duty stn) !st winter there was on the order of 100-150 inches of snow (poor Calif boy was SERIOUSLY lost) then two years in Japan, returned to Upper Michigan, then down around here in the CHicago area upon separation in 79 and havent looked bk yet. Friends and relatives who always ask "When ya movin bk home to Calif?" ------ CANT AFFORD IT now.......lol

I do not believe I was at school this day - sounds like it was an interesting day. Too bad there weren't any pictures of it in the yearbook.
